I was born and educated in Edinburgh and joined my local church at the age of 17. When I left school, I worked for The Bank of Scotland for almost 20 years before moving into accountancy. After qualifying as an accountant and in adult education, I worked in the Vocational Training Sector. In 1981 I moved to Glasgow and in March 1982 married Joan whom I had first met at a church youth event. I was ordained an Elder in 1984 and in my two previous congregations served in various capacities including Session Clerk, Clerk to the Congregational Board, Presbytery Elder and a Commissioner to The General Assembly. I became a member of Merrylea in 2010 and since then I have been an Elder and Presbytery representative as well as working on several Presbytery Committees. In the spring of 2016 I took early retirement, having worked in the Civil Service since 2003, and following this I took on the role of Session Clerk when my predecessor withdrew due to ill health.
My outside interests include motor sport, cookery and gardening as well as spending time with my wife and our two adult children.
