Hi, my name is Margaret McLellan and I will have been the Pastoral Assistant at Merrylea Parish Church for 2 years come the 12th of May 2016. I really enjoy serving in this Parish. The congregation have given my husband David and I, a warm welcome and we love being part of the Church family at Merrylea. We have 2 grown up children, Julie and Philip.

I was brought up in Jordanhill, Glasgow and like my predecessor Rev. Archie Robertson I attended Hyndland Senior Secondary School. On discovering Nursing was not for me I worked as a clerical officer for several years in the Education Headquarters of the newly formed Strathclyde Regional Council. I then moved to the Careers Service as an employment officer. No longer able to deny a call to serve the Church I trained as a Deacon of the Church of Scotland at St Colm’s College, in Edinburgh from 1982 -1985.

My probationary year was spent at The South Parish Church in East Kilbride. I then joined the Hospital Chaplaincy team at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh AND from there I moved to Newton Mearns where I served in Newton Mearns Parish Church. Before being appointed to Merrylea as Pastoral Assistant I served in Broom Parish Church as Deacon Assistant.

The Diaconal ministry is a ministry of servanthood, it seeks to enable others, and to build bridges between Church and community. The opportunity to reach out to those outside the Church and to bring the Church and the community together is integral to my role as Pastoral Assistant.

When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going to concerts, the theatre and gardening. I also look forward to walking our soon to be new golden retriever pup, Heidi.
